Genuine Hand Coiled Mata Ortiz Pottery
Artisan: Macaria Ortiz & Gerardo Pedragon Ortiz
Hometown: San Martin Tilcajete, Oaxaca, Mexico
Craftsmanship: Hand Carved Pottery; Meticulously Hand Painted; Signed on Bottom by Artisan; Exclusive & Unique; Butterfly Pot is the Only One in the World
Actually,
we are taking a little bit of “editorial license” with this particular piece of
BIRD POTTERY, as rather than featuring birds it is adorned with
several panels of butterflies. It is
still a wonderful Home Decorating Idea for those in love with, and
enthralled by, those things with wings!
Though
truly not
a piece of BIRD POTTERY, the vase is beautiful with alternating panels
of blue and rust. The three blue panels
“house” the black butterflies. Tan
“sunbursts” accent the birds, while tan lines outline their wings. The two rust panels, on the other hand,
feature black diamonds and black Zapotec markings.
One of the more unique
aspects of this piece of “faux” BIRD POTTERY is its neck. Black with a blue ring beneath it, the neck
reduces down so that it has a very small opening.
As with so many of the
vases on our Home Décor Website for Discriminating Birders, this
one is best displayed on the black-fabric covered ring that comes with it, as
it works well to ensure that the vase is well balanced and not prone to tipping
over.
