Fun Backstory: Edmundo - Armadillo Egipcio (The Egyptian Armadillo)

Edmundo was, he knew somewhat of an atypical armadillo. In fact, he often felt like a Watusi in the midst of Pygmies. Not only was his stature beyond compare in the armadillo world of the Oaxaca Region of Mexico, so was the rest of his appearance.

“Colorful” would be an understatement when describing Edmundo. From his long, blue skinny neck with purple raindrops to pink sunrays on his shoulders, Edmundo was unique. But the two things that most people seem to notice and comment on the most were his Egyptian-like tunic of two-tone green and his tail.

Ahhhh, and what a tail it is! Divided into six segments, each one was a combination of intertwined “spikes,” with accents of various colored dots, it was the most colorful armadillo tail in all of Oaxaca. Taken as a whole, Edmundo truly was a magnificent specimen.

Edmundo was pretty sure, however, that it wasn’t his appearance that found him standing before the Greater Oaxaca Armadillo Council. There was a strange “vibe” in the air, if you would, as though something foreboding was about to transpire. A man of few words, he stood silently until the proceedings were officially called to order.

“Edmundo,” Armone, the Amorous Armadillo from Amarillo, opened, “we have asked you hear today to ask you something about the way you look.”

“So,” Edmundo thought, “I was wrong - - this is about my appearance.”

“Yes,” Edmundo replied, “what would you like to know.”

“Why have you opted for an Egyptian tunic to cover yourself, rather than more traditional garb for this area?"

“Because of my height,” Edmundo replied truthfully.

“Because of your height,” Armone repeated the comment in question form.

“Yes. Because I am so tall, everything I have is stored far above the floor, including my gliphics. So, I chose to look like an Egyptian because compared to the rest of the armadillos in Oaxaca I have higher-gliphics.”

No one said a word as Edmundo slowly stood up and strolled out of the Council meeting. He would not, Edmundo was sure, ever be asked anything about his appearance again!
